Reusse: Once-dominant Burton setting up Twins to fail

  • Article by: PATRICK REUSSE , Star Tribune
  • Updated: July 2, 2013 - 11:47 AM

The Twins signed Jared Burton as a minor league free agent on Nov. 11, 2011. They did so knowing that he was on the rebound from right shoulder surgery and he would have to be protected to a degree in his workload.

Way to go Reusse and Amen to this long-overdue airing of the truth! Was there tonight and cannot believe that Gardenhire keeps his job in the face of such utter incompetence.

Umm how about who should be option One Mr. Reusse..Thielbar. 15 innings 5 hits 13 strikeouts. Against Lefties 7 innings 1 hit 9 strikeouts. Ahem...Cano leading off the eighth is a Lefty.

Gardenhire is so wrong as a manager. I have watched over and over the mistakes he makes with his relievers. He leaves them in to long when they are pathetic and takes them out to soon when pitching good. We need someone who can manage a team. Gardenhire has got to go!!!

Jared the Hillbilly isn't getting the job done. Period. That isn't Gardenhire's fault, and Burton is the guy he has to go with in these situations, for now. And some Twins fans want to trade Perkins?

Burton may suck, but give some of the credit to the high buck Joe Mauer. Once again, Joe comes up with runners in scoring position and whiff, he strikes out. Joe never is a clutch hitter. Maybe the Yankees will leave town with Joe on their roster. I would blame Gardy for that also, but everyone knows that he cannot go against Joe.

Yanks are still better than the Twins

If you throw a 85 mph fast ball it's hard to throw an effective change up. The Twins have many holes on this team and the set up guy is one of them.

jjgramithJul. 2, 13 7:10 AM

Well, he was throwing it 88 and 89 -- but wasn't his fastball consistently 92-93 last season and earlier this season? That's a big dropoff.

Gardy keeps running guys out there who are ineffective. Burton, Walters, and Diamond need a rest or something. Why didn't Willy go on the DL three weeks ago with his balky knee. At the beginning of the year, the Twins would have died for a 29-year-old starter with nasty stuff, a strikeout pitch, and could give you six to seven innings, and now they have one in Sam Deduno, but talk like he doesn't fit into their plans. The management and coaching decisions are killing me.

Its quite apparent that Burton is not the answer, BUT WHO IS????? Not much to choose from right now......Maybe Morneau for a couple of 8th inning relievers??????/
