And how much of what is done is done FOR the lawyers???? Childbirth doctors have some of the highest malpractice fees "Because somebody has to pay when something goes wrong". Not because decisions were actual mal-practice.
There needs to be better studies and better publication of those studies about the effectiveness of different approaches. However, it's clear there are far too many C-sections, which increase risk to the mother, and that information has not had the kind of effect it should have. There is some data showing that mothers (who don't have high risk pregnancies) who use midwives do better both during the birth and after the birth (because the midwives usually provide support after the birth, especially helping mothers learn to nurse the baby). Policies at a lot of hospitals - and views of the American Medical Association - are not as friendly to midwives as they should be.
Yeah that's why I have been so very, very satisfied with Planned Parent hood as I build my family. Keep the healthy stock and delete the defective spawn.
