Paula Deen's worst ingredients

  • Article by: FRANK BRUNI , New York Times

Paula Deen is where sass meets crass, where the homespun and folksy curdle into something with a sour aftertaste.

I agree with the punishment that has been handed out to Ms. Deen but I would like to know why there hasn't been similar discussions regarding Bill Maher's negative reference to Sarah Palin's son.

lettem01 -- Don't you know anything? The "political correctness card" is only played when it's laid in the favor of Lefties! When the tables are turned, Leftists hide behind thin veil's such as, "He's an entertainer" or "He's on pay TV" or "He's a satirist"! Kind of like how the death of an unborn baby can be "murder" or it can be a "choice" -- the tangled web the Lefties weave will also likely be their eventual downfall!

Double standard on display in full force! Liberals get all wound up over something that happened years and years ago, yet the Hollywood type can write entire albums using the "n" word 500 times, and its a "hit"? Hypocracy at its finest

Nice about-face, Mr. Bruni, after villifying Anthony Bourdain and being Paula Deen's biggest apologist a couple of years ago after Mr. Bourdain criticized her for exactly the same things.

Oh please, as long as the race-baiters are allowed to root around on witch-hunts like this and dredge-up any semblance of racism they can find, no matter how long ago, to throw up in peoples faces, we will NEVER have good race relations. The crap that Deen is being put through is clearly akin to the old-style communist self-criticism browbeating sessions! Think those party-approved thoughts comrades, or you will be purged! Political correctness is fascism pretending to be manners!

lostinstpaul: "Double standard on display in full force!" Thanks for reinforcing that! We appreciate your doubling down on your double standard!

Gaurantee every poster on these boards has made a disparaging remark about someone who has not looked, smelled, spoke, thought, or worshipped like them. Should you lose your job? Lets be honest, now!

I thought it was pretty awesome, all the food-related words this guy put in his column.
