DENVER — Colorado officials say a suburban Colorado Springs school district discriminated against a 6-year-old transgender girl by preventing her from using the girls' bathroom, in what advocates described as the first such ruling in the next frontier in civil rights.

Why is this boy referred to as a girl? He in anatomically and genetically a male. I would remove my daughters from this school ASAP. The parents and the child need counseling and not the right to use a girls restroom.

Dressing as the opposite sex does not change your gender. What a terrible thing to do to every little girl in the school. They have rights and to use a bathroom with only other girls is one of them. This boy is NOT a girl. Calling a dog a cat does not make it a cat!

Am I alone to think this world is crazy ? How can a child at six say he or she wants to change sex ? Because he is a genetic boy and plays Barbie ? Just let him play Barbie not even mentioning this is sometimes considered a girls game, and nobody would notice. Let's leave our child live their own life withut bringing in our ideologies, categories, judgment !

Is there any wonder that actual girls don't want a boy, with boy parts using their bathroom? Why is it that the rights of all the girls are infringed for this one person? The Transgender is the only one with rights, what a crock. Shame on the parents.

The kid is a boy, not a girl, no matter what the kid thinks or the stupid enabling parents say. The parents and the little boy all need psychiatric help. What a sick, twisted world we live in now that behavior like this is celebrated.

What if he had identified with a cat when he was younger. Would that make him a cat?

There is a lot of confusion today about the difference between sex, gender, and sexual orientation. Sex is the biological make up of the body (male, female) Gender is the social identity of the individual (masculine or feminine) often this is associated with sex, however it is not. The issue comes down to what the expectation of the restroom is based on sex or gender. If its based on sex (which I think it is due to urinals in male and the lack of them in female restroom) then the people who are male should use male and people who are female should use female. The same if restrooms are based on gender people should use them based on gender. Now if it were up to me there would only be one restroom and everyone would use that one.

"...a 6-year-old transgender girl" No. That six year old is a BOY. I'm guessing that his parents haven't had sex-reassignment surgery performed, and I'm also guessing that he's not (yet) being given female hormones. That makes him a BOY, not a girl. Sadly, he's a boy whose parents are more mixed up than he is.

user7780 - If a 17 year old boy claims he is a girl and wants to use the female locker room to change clothes and shower with teenage girls you support that? Simply amazing. What about the rights of the female students?

When the girls in my high school wonder why I am walking into their shower with them I can simply tell them I think I am a female and no one will care. This is gonna be fun!
