This weekend’s tree loss in Minneapolis is expected to top the damage from the 2011 tornado on the North Side.

it would be nice to see a couple more crews working in South Minneapolis... I see trees on power lines and I see dangling wires in alleys but no crews in my neighborhood...

nothing can be done until crews get out and get the trees off the lines. That is not the job of the linemen. South Minneapolis is not the only place that has no power and people will just have to be patient. We don't have any here either but it seems all around us has it but we are making the best of it. My father worked for NSP back in the day so I know how hard they work to get everyone back up and running.

Take heart, I'm heading south, saw power crews, a whole lot of them headed north through southern WI and northern IL. I must have seen 50-75 power trucks, and those are just the ones I saw! Good luck all.

I would like to say thanks to all the crews out helping us. We got the power back on mid afternoon (55406). There were a lot of trees on power lines and in the street over here in so mpls. I didnt think we would get the power back on so fast judging by the amount of downed trees and power lines. Much appreciated! Wish I could offer you all a cold beverage but they are just starting to cool back down.

When I was going around South Minneapolis today; I saw at least 6 crews; and 4 tree crews working in the area 50th street to penn ave; to lake street to lyndale ave.

please..... I do not look to the readers for answers... we called in for dangling lines and nothing...if something happens your answers mean nothing...sorry but dangling lines is a priority or at least I thought they were

Not all of 55406 is restored. I'm a 1/2 block from a block that had power back yesterday. It would help if there was more information from Xcel. Sometime between now and wed is not very helpful, especially going into the work week.

I have NO problems with the crews: they work long hours under trying conditions. What I wonder about is the utility executives and planners. I am not convinced they are adjusting to the new weather realities: as Paul Douglas points out in his blog, we have had four "one in a thousand years" weather events in Minnesota since 2004.

regionguy it's not just Paul Douglas it's also the property insurance companies who are sounding the warning bells. There is a reason we are paying extremely high home insurance compared to ten, twenty, and thirty years ago. Of course nobody listens until insurance starts to rise at double-digit rates.
