WASHINGTON — A breakthrough at hand, Republicans and Democrats reached agreement Thursday on a costly, military-style surge to secure the leaky U.S.-Mexican border and clear the way for Senate passage of legislation giving millions of immigrants a chance at citizenship after years in America's shadows.

Looks like BOTH parties couldn't care less that there are tens of millions of Citizens who need jobs. They both went for the votes of hispanics in granting amnesty for the law breakers! When your wages are going down, thank the politicians for caring more about votes than they do about you!

I thought Republicans and Conservatives were against bigger government and more spending? And here we are, talking about a massive increase in both to satisfy them. Either consistency isn't their strong suit, or xenophobia overrules what is supposed to be a central principle of their approach to government. Oh that we'd be much more concerned about people and how we treat them rather than imagined things like boarders and things we've created for ourselves like "illegal immigration."

It is funny how it has not leaked out of congress yet what the details for the 10 year waiting period will be. My guess is that it will be: 1) be a good Citizen for ten years, 2) collect welfare to send home 3) save up some cash to pay $500 penalty ten years from now.

Care to explain?

As recently as four (4) hours ago we needed a minimum of 700 miles of fence. Now it is down to 300. How does that work?

Deportation. I don't care how long it takes. How do you call this a change in immigration law when all of the folks being considered for amnesty already have BROKEN THE LAW. If I repeatedly run red lights, or go 30 mph over the speed limit constantly, will that too become acceptable law breaking?

Good start. Let's get the 11 mm paying taxes right away too.

Has this paper produced a summary of the key provisions of the bill? It is starting to look like an "education" bill or a "crime prevention" bill. All we have is the title of the bill and associated political score keeping. Few know what's in it...again. In my view, the prize for paying back taxes and learning English would be legal residency, not citizenship. That seems acceptably generous for people here illegally.
