Good news! It's too bad that it didn't happen in Minnesota first, but hopefully other counties in our state follow suit.

There are absolutely NO shale formations in the state of Minnesota, so it really doesn't matter.

My neighbors in Pepin County are not swayed by pressures from big money.

"My neighbors in Pepin County are not swayed by pressures from big money." --- Looks like three of their council members were. Good thing for the other nine.

No slae buts lots of silica sand(known carcinogen) & thats what they want. Ask the people of Maiden Rock if they have benefited from the mine. No locals are employed at a mine that runs 24/7. Ask them about the dust(carcinogen) in their homes, the train & truck noise(24/7), the loss in property values(houses sell cheap), the pollution in their wells. Western WI volunteers are helping SE MN communities fight the big oil companies trying to ram the MN mines through. You can learn from your neighbors. We can still lose SE MN as the beautiful area that it is.

I grew up in the northern part of Pepin County. This is a significant vote because the county (as a whole) is one of the poorest counties in Wisconsin. There probably are significant silica sand resources in that area. There's a lot of (potential) money in this business. Neighboring counties have seen elected officials and government officials take high-paying jobs in the sand industry after greasing the wheels for industry expansion.
