Tevlin: Love and lobbying: Where is the line crossed?

I think I know garbage when I smell it, and if you were near the Hennepin County Board meeting last Tuesday, you might have caught a faint whiff.

Peter McLaughlin should have simply recused himself from voting on the issue. Saying only "I did nothing illegal" doesn't account for the fact his actions are highly unethical.

I still am amazed that we Minnesotans don't want to acknowledge the fact that the lobbyists run the state. The corporations give lobbyists money. The lobbyists give the money to the legislator-of either party- and the legislator votes the way he or she is told.

I believe that an early, public disclosure of a possible conflict never hurts. When other parties know , it does not create a problem and no one has reason to question your motives later on. Sounds too practical for Peter so he won't do it. He still refused to do it Tuesday.
