Trophy tales: Northern exposure

  • Updated: June 18, 2013 - 8:12 PM

“Our family has been going on an annual fishing trip for about 20 years to Canada, but the last three years we have stayed on the Ash River and fished both Kabetogama and Namakan lakes. This year, we went a week earlier to try to have better luck, but we worried about the late ice-out. The first night I caught this 39.5-inch Northern Pike on Namakan Lake using 10-pound test line, an 8-inch leader with a jig and white double tail. It’s the biggest fish I’ve ever caught. Nice to say it was caught in my home state, where we photographed it and then released it for another lucky angler.’’
