US home construction up 6.8 pct. in May; permits for more single-family homes hit 5-year high

WASHINGTON — U.S. builders stepped up home construction in May and applied for permits to build single-family homes at the fastest pace in five years. The gains show housing remains a key source of growth for the economy.

The author must have completely ignored the nose dive in mortgage applications which fell for the 8th week of the last 9 at the fastest year-over-year pace in 3 years and slumped to 2 year lows.
