It is untrue to say that raising taxes will cause businesses NOT to reinvest in their business. The only way a business owner is taxed is if they take the money as profit. If instead the money is reinvested in the business it becomes a cost of doing business and is not taxed. In fact higher taxes may actually make business owner reinvest to avoid paying the additional tax.

That's because the majority of the electorate recognize it's smart governing - full stop!

I hope the state's not actually expecting much revenue from this cigarette tax hike. Too many smokers will be quitting for it to provide the kind of revenue they're expecting. ...or buying them outstate.

It is also untrue to say that an income tax increase on the wealthy will lead them to reinvest/spend less and/or or hire less. Economic growth was fastest in years with relatively high top marginal tax rates. Supply-side/trickle-down economics simply hasn't worked and many economic studies have concluded that the revenue-maximizing rate is above 45%. In fact, '42- '72 were some of the most prosperous years in this country when taxes were much higher than we have now.

Shocker poll results! A society that robs Peter to pay Paul can always expect the support of Paul.

I wonder what the incomes are of the ones supporting the hikes.

Never forget who they attack. When a wealthy or middle-class person attacks a poor person or family, it should raise red flags. The weak and the vulnerable are not our enemies. They are our friends and neighbors. They are the most in need and most deserve our love and generosity.

Although 98% percent of the people will not pay the additional income tax, only 56% support it. Interesting.

It still boils down to the often recited but still relevant greedy Minnesota reliance in the belief of "tax thee/not me."
