Officials: NSA programs thwarted potential terrorist plots in US, more than 20 other countries

WASHINGTON — Top U.S. intelligence officials said Saturday that information gleaned from two controversial data-collection programs run by the National Security Agency thwarted potential terrorist plots in the U.S. and more than 20 other countries — and that gathered data is destroyed every five years.

Translation: the terrorist who want to do harm to the US already know their communications are watched, so they are extraordinarily careful. Thus the NSA can only track down the junior varsity working elsewhere in the world. This program is an incredible waste of money and is already creeping into domestic surveillance.
