I fail to see how the earlier opener here in Minnesota could affect a bird that flies up to 1500 miles south If we do not shoot them they get shot further south For many years we have been banking birds for others further south of us Not my idea of a good return on investment Heck on last years opener I shot banded teal from Manitoba (so Manitoba banked them for me to harvest) without the earlier opener would these same teal be in Iowa or further south by the time we had the old opening date ?

Verdepato, excellent point and reminder why the recent Mn early season was Lon over due.

Minnesota has been losing duck hunters for years now and a primary culprit was a combination of the noon or 9am opening day start + only 2 woodies in the daily bag limit + youth waterfowl day one week earlier + too late of an official opener. Nearly every other state in Midwest has had a 3 bird wood duck bag limit for years too. Finally some smarter regs, although the youth waterfowl day is still a problem.
