Since the fastest growing high school sport in Minnesota is trapshooting this seems totally appropriate. I'd suggest the community will be far safer when all of those with criminal intent realize that gun-toting, law-abiding citizens are close by, locked and loaded.

Does our adoration of guns make us really that insensitive? Newton was six months ago, and now we're gonna have live fire within two blocks of a Minnesota high school. And for those of us who think only "law abiding citizens" shoot at such clubs, let's please not forget the Navy Seal sniper who was recently murdered...at a gun club. If this is okay with folks, there should be no limitations on bars, strip clubs or casino's in proximity to institutions such as schools, churches and daycares. Is that what we really want? Just because the Founders included the Second Amendment to preserve our right to carry flintlocks as part of a militia, doesn't mean gun rights trump all others--particularly our kids safety.

But less than 500 feet away, leaders at Osseo High School worry it could threaten students’ safety. “The location is the main concern; it’s too close to the school,” Osseo Assistant Superintendent Kim Riesgraf said. That statement shows the lack of of knowledge of safety regulations by Riesgraf. I would be concerned about his intelligence if I lived in Osseo. Gun ranges are the most safety regulated of any business in Minnesota. I get very concerned when people in his position make uninformed statements as though they are experts.

Why don't we all just don holsters and start packin' out in the open.Let's bring back the old unbridled Wild West, what the Hell. I'm sure that the 38,000 people that are killed by firearms every year in America will surely go down......

Springerguy just educated us on the fact only "law-abiding gun-toting" will be allowed to hang out at this club. However to they manage to keep out the pesky ones with criminal intent??

I go to gun ranges but I think this plan is a bit weird. Common sense should dictate this doesn't happen. There is plenty of land down Highway 81 and into Dayton build one.

Proximity of a fully-licensed firing range and retail store poses absolutely no threat to any school because if someone decides to target a school, he is not acting on an impulse of convenience or quick geographic access to firearms. The way Superintendent Reisgraf is talking, you would think the City of Osseo is proposing an open-air toxic dumpsite. Get educated on the issue and speak from a position of fact for once rather than knee-jerk political correctness. And Nerowolfe, spare me your sniveling banter about New Town and go get educated about Chris Kyle's death. He was killed not by a criminal, but by a law-abiding citizen struggling with mental illness.

I suspect the Newton school would not have been selected had a gun range been next door.

Come on, please do your homework and don't over react. Guns need to be in a case when walking into a gun club, so not sure how you can worry that the school may get confused on what the intent is (in the parking lot down the street no less). Also, just ask yourself what a nut would be thinking if he/she wanted to go blasting at the school. they don't care what is around, just that you have unarmed, defenseless people in the building.

That it was going to turn into the wild west.
