Caterpillar to begin layoffs at S. Milwaukee plant where Steelworkers OKed contract

SOUTH MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Caterpillar Inc. says it is placing about 260 production employees at its South Milwaukee plant on indefinite layoff because of weaker demand for mining equipment.
