Richard Pitino likes what he sees but says it’s premature to judge which players are best suited to fit in his system.

It only took two months but RP is now one of Sids close personal friends.

It is time for Mr. Hartmann to begin his mindless hyping of Gopher athletics. The hype will be followed by excuse-making when the seasons start and the teams are underperforming.

ireland guy, MN finally has a couple of coaches with passion and they appear to be pragmatic. I gotta hunch the Gophers will no longer be underperforming or our new AD will be looking again. Maturi Mediocrity has left the building.

I think Pitino was commenting on the fact that it is a real accomplishment to get into the final four. Pitino has accopanied his dad to the final four more than once and his vision is to get there, but, has to find a way to do that without breaking too many rules. Last years team with Eliason, Buggs Mbakwe and the two Hollins with Mo, Rodney, Coleman and Welsh off the bench had a shot but was derailed by management. It was not impossible. Next year's team appears to be Eliason, Buggs, Austin up front with Andre Hollins and a new player in the backcourt with Mo, Ellenson and Maverick and a new player off the bench is a good retool in a much changed Big Ten with many very good players leaving other teams.

paddy691944 if Pitino is successful in Big Ten play in his first year and Kill has another bad year in the Big Ten we likely will have a new football coach next March. Norwood would like to have people forget his mistake to pacify Kill and pay off UNC $800,000 chicken money so he can go back to the wealthy and ask for donations again.

I can never understand Sid's love affair with the Gophers and his lack of ink for other colleges in the state like Saint John's football, and Augsburg basketball come on Sid the Gophers aren't the ONLY game in town. You'd think you were a contributing alumnus...

While there is still an absence of significant wins, it is good to see that the football team is performing well in the classroom.

RP is bringing passion to a dead Tubby program, BUT his style of play is basically run and gun. We have to give him a couple years to recruit for his style. PS, my basketball playing buddy in South Florida followed Florida International (his son was recruited there). They were perennial losers until Pitino showed up. He was very impressed with Pitino's coaching and the fact that the team actually started winning. He thinks MN made a fantastic hire. I'm really looking forward to watching this team (can't say I was ever enthusiastic looking forward to a tubby team)!

Why some need to continue to bash Gophers BB when the new coaches team hasn't even played one game yet tells a lot about them. If Pitino can get one of the big three to commit I am very hopeful for the future. That would prove he can really recruit. To the big three, can you imagine how hot it would be if all three of you kicked butt together at the U. It would be for the glory of your home state, family and friends too, not some other state and strangers. Bring Akofor along too, national title.

One of the big three to commit? Do you mean one of the top 3 players in the country, or do you mean one of the three Minnesotans in the top 40? We need to stop with the desperation MN-grown worship of the press and of the last couple coaches limiting the team. Get some team-players from anywhere in the country that can win.
