A washout as a traditional sportswriter, Minnetonka man found success as innovative blogger

Aaron Gleeman was rejected by the Minnesota Daily, the University of Minnesota’s prestigious student newspaper, nine times before dropping out of college, so it was “a little weird,” he said, when he was invited back to campus in October to speak to a sports journalism class made up mostly of Daily sports staffers.

Missing from this article is Gleeman's smug, holier-than-thou approach he takes when interacting with readers of his. That's of course if he even graces you with a response. He's part of the TwinsCentric clique and his gig on kfan and now the strib offering free advertising for him only helps to grow his ego. I'm surprised this article didn't mention him nursing back to health an injured fawn, that's where I thought it was going.

I think your comment is unfair. I'd say his attitude is more holier-than-some, and he has been known to respond to his readers on the occasions when they agree with him. Plus, it was an injured possum he nursed back to life, not a fawn, and I think the fact that he didn't mention it in the interview shows that he has at least a shred of humility.

I would argue every Tweet or Blog he posts is an interaction with the readers. Perhaps his lack of response has more to do with the lack of "depth" in some comments rather than his ego - or perhaps is due to the fact that he Blogs, Radios, Podcasts, Tweets 24/7 (matter of fact, between him and Bill Baer...I had to turn off my Twitter notifications because they were keeping me up all night). Then again, maybe he is the TwinCentric, egotistical folk you say he is...what do I know... PS: I am happy to report that the Fawn made a full recovery and was later able to identify Eric Wedge’s mustache as the culprit.

Excellent topical Eric Wedge joke.

I enjoy Aaron's blog and podcasts -- and if some of the comments on Hardball Talk are indicative of what people tweet at him -- I don't blame him for blowing people off. He takes a clear-eyed view of the Twins. He's not a bandwagon guy -- recently he's been pointing out Mauer's many great attributes in the face of the backlash against his lack of home run power and big contract. He's not as sentimental as most fans are (including me). He's been pointing out the overall weakness in some of Morneau's numbers, even though I wonder where they'd be without him right now. Aaron's always a good read and makes you think -- which of course is a problem for some people right there.

As a UofM student who reads the Daily on a regular basis, it boggles my mind that they rejected Aaron so many times. Either he's gotten much better since then, or the Daily has gotten much worse.

He was snubbed over 10 years ago by the Daily and he is still whining. Move on!

Aaron has been writing about in-depth Twins topics for a lot longer than the major media outlets. He does a really good job and kind of looks like hellboy, the movie character, which is pretty cool too!
