Souhan: All systems Go-Go: Ex-Twin Gomez is going at full speed

  • Article by: JIM SOUHAN , Star Tribune

MILWAUKEE – Carlos Gomez swung with such force that he spun around in the righthand batter’s box until his chest faced the third-base dugout, his bat slipping to the ground. He froze for a moment, facing his old team, but they have never seen him quite like this.

Good column. This is typical of Twins baseball and Gomez should be ecstatic that he got out.

Headcase city...... still runs amuck, but would look good in centerfield.....give Hicks another 2-3 years, and we'll see who ended up better....

The verdict is still out on Gomez and I hope he continues to develop. If he continues to flurish it wouldn't be the first time a young player progressed in a another system and it won't be the last as long as Gardenhire and Ryan are in control. Not an opinion, it's a fact.

I agree profanman ... players on the Twins team in the current regime do not develop. They expect them to play the "Twins Way", which is try hard, be quiet, think like the manager does, and oh by the way, if you have talent and an attitude, then you are not "Twins material". The winning teams in Twins history all have had characters and leaders, which the current team does not have. Not sure if it's scouting, front office, or the manager, but currently, the formula is stale and not working.

Plenty of people are still going to say it was the "Twins Way" and their hitting philosophy that caused Go-Go's troubles. However, it wasn't necessarily the Brewers' coaches that suddenly made him better, either. After all, he still struggled GREATLY in 2010, 2011, and most of 2012 - all while with the Brewers and away from the horrible "Twins Way". There were other influences/factors that have contributed to his success this season. I could go into them, but what's the point? People are going to believe what they want to believe, despite facts to the contrary.

The twins are so scared of real baseball. They prefer singles hitters over home run hitters, and pitch-to-contact pitchers over striking hitters out. It's stupid. If Sano goes the way of Ortiz I will find a new team.

What did TK used to say? It takes a thousand MLB at-bats to see if a player has it, or doesn't. Then it takes another thousand at-bats to get it right. Well, he had about a thousand at-bats with the Mets and Twins and now he's had about a thousand with Milwaukee and he looks like he's getting it right.

gerrymanderMay. 27, 13 9:49 PM

Anyone wondering why the Twins are perennial losers look no further.

hammersteinMay. 27, 13 9:49 PM

bolock54, Hicks will be okay ... as a corner outfielder. Buxton will be this team's CF by 2015.

mythologerMay. 27, 13 9:50 PM

The major leagues are full of ex-Twin center fielders, all better than the one they have. Maybe Hicks will turn things around some day. He should be playing in Rochester, but we have run out of center fielders.
