Richard Pitino was hired as Minnesota’s basketball coach on April 3. The first order of business in that situation is to start meeting with the players scheduled to return for the next season.

He really needs to redshirt for a year. Besides jumping high, I didn't see a whole lot of promise here. Rodney 2.0

He hasn't proven anything yet, but he's a much better shooter than Rodney was or will ever be. This is fact, not opinion.

I like his potential. I had hoped he'd play more, but Big Ten defense is a little more difficult than it looks. If he can improve his footwork and learn to play in your face defense without fouling he will be a big winner.

Tubby's motionless offense had a lot to do with Rodney be ineffective.

What was the point of playing him for 48 minutes at the end of games already won ? Tubby just didn't seem to have a plan with regard to much, glad he's moved on.

Ellenson did not shoot or play defense well in Big Ten games and as a result, spent his time on the bench. The writer may have asked Ellenson how he and Buggs played in practices. Buggs was the Gophers best wing in early practices before Smith decided to redshirt Buggs and turn him into a big. Pitino has already said that Buggs is going to make a big leap in the upcoming season. A team of Elliason, Buggs and the two Hollins and ??? is a good start to better days ahead. Pitino needs to find one more big forward before fall.

I think Ellenson was mainly a victim of his hand injury early. That set him back as far as learning the offense and developing a flow with his teammates, and it didn't seem Tubby wanted him to learn on the job in the Big Ten. Now with a new coach he's on a level playing field with his teammates again. Hopefully he's been working on his game!

Interesting how the story of Wally’s redshirt got distorted. I had heard that he didn’t want to be redshirted and now he says that IS what he wanted and Tubby wouldn’t do so. And then Tubby hardly played him...it just doesn’t make sense. Glad we are moving forward with Coach Pitino…GO GOPHERS!

I hope Pitino allows and encourages him to continue high jumping. A 7'1" jump in high school is incredible!
