People who really follow golf and hear from guys inside the ropes (and reporters with good access) understand that Woods, as Garcia has said, is NOT the nicest guy on Tour. The callousness at which Tiger went about cheating on his wife as she was at home with his kids, and the generally fraudulent nature about his character bestowed upon him by the media pre-scandal, adds to ugliness Woods can often manifest. That said .... Sergio being stupid enough to aim a "fried chicken" comment at Tiger really defeats any attempt by Garcia to gain sympathy in his p.r. battle with Woods. Part of me wants to like Garcia, wants to see him break through and win a major. But then Garcia will spit in the cup, or blame the golf gods for losing, or throw a "fried chicken" grenade at dark skinned American competitor. Sergio has become his own worst enemy.

Garcia apologizes for "taking the shine away from the event." The slurs continue.

What Garcia really feels bad about is the fact that he will lose some sponsors due to his stupid remark. What a Dope!

There is a lot of fair criticism of Tiger available to Garcia. His remarks were stupid and hard to understand

Most professional golfers acquire some social graces as part of their vocation and need them for survival in that heady swim. Somehow Garcia did not get that message.

Is Tiger a saint? No. Does he donate a ton of time and money to charities? Yes. You bring up Tiger's infidelity. Do you have any idea how many golfers cheat on their wives? You must hate Kirby Puckett, Paul Molitor, Michael Jordan and a plethora of other sports figures...Has nothing to do with this story. Sergio made a racist comment and you in some way are trying to defend him. Sheesh...

Tiger's fidelity...nothing to do with this story...nothing. No excuse for Sergio dumbing down. We honor lots of sports figures that have less than stellar personal lives...gambling,etc. Sergio is off base and sounding like a whiney racist. Very disappointed and thought he was a better guy :(

No reference to Zoeller yet? May Garcia fade into oblivion as well.

Really, what was he suppose to say? he knew it was a total screw up that could cost him alot of money. What he said had no doubt, that it was predjudice. He slipped from his heart, what was there and realized that he let out something that was in him but, not apparently obvious in him.Sometimes we learn whats right but maybe the learning curve of racism is much deeper than what we learn later.I brought 6 kids to the Shrine Circus about 20 yrs. ago and the old white ring master that had been with them for 30 yrs. was talking to a black boy and he said, Give that boy some fried chicken and a watermellon. As that was in St.Paul, the crowd kind of gasped. He was fired the next day after 30 yrs. I don't think a I'm sorry will erase everything, but you had to start somewhere.

Also,Tiger has had to amend his ways and bring himself back to prominence with alot of groveling and I think even some therapy with his, I'm sorrys, if I remember right. We are all accountable for our behavior and especially what comes out of our mouths.I think my Mom told me I needed to think before I spoke. There's still alot of times I get it wrong and I'm getting to be an old timer.
