Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, sought to include a provision requiring applicants to disclose any Social Security numbers they had used previously, but that fell on a party-line vote - - - seems reasonable to me.

Adding another new low skill visa program and increasing high tech visas from 650,000 to 1,800,000 per decade seems like financial suicide. Do they ever go home and why does the US Government keep flooding the US Labor Market when jobs are still being exported and the unemployment rate is still high??

Does the bill close/secure the border? Does the bill close the "anchor baby" loophole? Does the bill increase the penalty for being in the country illegally? Does the Bill allow the INS to enforce our laws and not have to follow a political policy every-time there is a presidential change? Does this Bill increase the penalty of companies that hire illegal aliens? If the answer to any of these questions is NO , then the Bill does not fix out problem!

"increasing high tech visas from 650,000 to 1,800,000 per decade seems like financial suicide." -- If I read the article right, the increase is from 65,000 to 110,000. I believe those well-paid, high tech people will spend a lot of money here.

Commit a crime and become an American citizen. Why do we lower our standards?

i have to admit than ANY republican who votes for this bill is incredibly stupid. the number of illegals here is closer to 35 million. That will be 35 million legally cast votes for Democrats, plus the millions upon millions more who will flood into this country. most of these people are unskilled and illiterate, and many are criminals that had to leave Mexico because they are fugitives. This sea change in the electorate will transform the United States into a third world country within two generations, with the same poverty, crime, and corruption that makes mexico a hell on earth. maybe some of you are correct. It seems that "repulican" legislators are fools.

Liberals complain about American workers losing jobs that are moved overseas, but they support adding another 15 million workers to compete for manufacturing and service positions. There is no logic or common sense being applied to this.
