Instead of voting on an "independent council" on the next ballot, why don't you have the guts to put the proposed raise on the ballot and let the voters determine if you deserve one or not?
Best news all month!
When ANY law is signed that reduces the MN budget by $10k/year - ANY law - only *then* should those buffoons get a raise. Try that for a challenge.
This will be an easy "no"
Pray tell how much will this council make and how do I get on it?
Rather than an independent council ( Ha! Yeah right), this should be done only by voter referendum. Put it on the ballot and let the people who actually have to pay for this decide! I honestly think this " Independent council" idea will make things worse. We all know that all the lawmakers at the capital will be in very cozy with this council. This is just yet another way they will keep on fleecing the taxpayers. ++ Maybe they should just live within their means while dealing with wage stagnation, just as their employers ( The taxpayers) have to. They should be paying a portion of their health insurance too, just like the rest of us.
You are not voting the raise for the individuals, you are voting the pay for the job. It makes sense to have an indepenent panel look at the job to determine an approprate pay. Most of us don't get to raise our own pay....but most of us wouldn't wnat the public voting on whether our jobe merits one or not.
Just another constitutional amendment that should be soundly rejected.
What I'd like to see is bill to remove per diem pay for legislators whose district is within 60 miles of the capitol. I have co-workers that drive that far each day, and bring a cold sandwich to work. Why shouldn't legislators do the same?
grumpy42 you won't make much and the public will vote on whether you deserve it or not. Still interested?
