I once had a favorite professor at the University of Minnesota who was everything you wanted in a teacher: Brilliant. Challenging. Thoughtful. Full of wise advice.

A fun piece to read! But selling alcohol to students? Let's run the numbers. The drinking age is 21. Most 'traditional students' start college at 17-18 years old. Fake ID's aside- if it's done 'by the book' they'd only be serving beer to 21 year old seniors. I don't have hard data today- but back in the day, it was mostly Freshman and Sophs who'd attend the football games. Upperclassmen (women) were both off campus and off to other Saturday pursuits. Also, the upperclassmen were not looking for the chance to spend upwards of (today's equivilent) $7.00 for ONE beer when they can get a decent 6 pack for the same price and watch a game on the tube (now flat screen) for free! Finally, until the football club gets better and actual attendance increases- not just tickets sold- but people actually attending the games - it will be difficult to turn a buck on anything (not just beer) sold at TCF Stadium- there just aren't enough people at the games to achieve volume / profits on anything. Go GOPHERS!

with Regents like Clyde Allen, is it any wonder that there are issues at the U?

I read this article with interest and amusement. I was a music major in college, and played in the band for football and basketbal games. It was always the band that had the alcohol. All of us underage innocent youths. So when they say it's more important not to sell to students, than mke a profit, I have to laugh. Students will always get booze no matter how hard you try to stop them.

Another example of a liberal failure. Liberals always find a way to lose and the U of M has plenty of them in decision making roles.

Why does the U of M administration assume people under 21 need to be protected from alcohol consumption? You can go to war at an earlier age!! Give young people some credit for buying a drink or two at a football game.
