Sorry for the negative vibes, but, money hoarding of the finite amount of the Monopoly game money by rich individuals and entities equals a recession. Europe and the US is banking on the idea that 12 % overall unemployment and 27 % unemployment of 15 to 24 year olds in some countries in Europe, less in the US and depressed pay for working people will not trigger a revolution against the rich which is best defined as a Tax on Assets and Transactions and not fully paying the rich back on the money they borrowed to government or finally a bloody street revolution and new leadership. The housing bubble looming in China may be right around the corner which will bring further tension in the US and Europe.

Savings used to be an essential part of home buying and investing in new businesses. Our government’s policy of artificially manipulating interest rates has devastated retirees, people trying to save money for business investments or purchasing their first home. Money supply used to be finite when it was tied to either gold or GDP. Not anymore. The printing presses are running full steam now.
jd55604, you are mostly right. Quite well done. Except that the big companies are not saving their money, no, their money is stuck in giant warehouses where they wait for some big jump to make them build new buldings and inventory. A las, their money just sits there doing nothing. And you are right on the killing of the senior people whom tried follow the rules and save their money. But with interest of about 1.5 percent interest, they are drawing down their capital and soon will have nothing. I agree with you in that we should get rid of the paper money which is nothing but pretty money and go back to either gold or silver. Those two items have innate value and will always be that way. Most people have little money and most have no pension and their 401 K plans dropped like a rock and dragged those people down to blackness. So sorry but so true.
