I have been advocating for people with mental illness for almost 25 years ago since I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I was happy to hear that the White House has realized that this is a very important and necessary topic to address. I actually wrote a certified letter to President Obama a few months ago regarding how Mental Illness Awareness last year was hardly addressed and how other countries acknowledged Mental Health Day and the United States did almost nothing. That is why I stared a petition that would cost almost nothing and both Republicans and Democrats could agree on. Please check out my petition. I have spoken to several petitions over the years and have heard back encouraging words including one from President Clinton. I would really like to discuss my ideas with President Obama. Do you have any idea how I would do that? Petition: http://www.petition2congress.com/9076/mental-illness-awareness-week-being-observed-in-2013/
