A rejuvenated Prince looks forward again

DENVER – Prince pounded his rhinestone-encrusted cane into the floor to make a point. “I don’t have time for old people,” he insisted. “I want to work with young people.”

Dylan didn't "crossover"? Bill Russell (Celtic Great) said in his autobiography, that Dylan was the first white man he heard sing with the "pain of the black man" in the 60s. He is also constantly "borrowing" from the blues greats in his last 5 albums. I remember when Dylan dissed prince when he was asked if had hear of him in the 1980s. Dylan said, no but I have heard Martha and the Vandellas. For some reason they don't seem to like each other.

Hey! If he wants to work with young people ... maybe he could do some pro bono work and visit the parks in the old Bryant Jr. High area - a lot of kids hanging in those parks could use a music mentor!

Prince is about as goofy a human as can be found, but you can't deny the guy is a musical genius. If he can pass that along to others without the flakiness, the musical world will be a better place.

He is a musical genius. Any genius I've ever heard of has been described as eccentric. It stands to reason that they run on a different plane but you can't argue the fact that he does something only he can do.

Prince will never get another dime of my money. Great musician? Definitely. Respectful of the fans who give him his pay check? Nope. We saw him live on two occasions over the past 10 years. On BOTH of those, he not only started the show far later than the advertised time, but he made all ticket holders wait in the lobby while he and the band did their sound check. We couldn't leave as tickets were will call only. No option other than to just stand there and wait. And THEN, after getting into the arena AFTER the advertised start time, there was even more waiting (HOURS) before the actual show started. Never again.

I have been a fan of Prince's music for many years. What I am not a fan of is his business sense! What kind of comment is that to make I only want to work with young people when you are in your 50's AND you have an older fan base. The young people haven't supported you and made you an icon. How about just working with good people. 22 year old manager? Come on are you kidding me? Maybe you like young people so you can control them. So, are you no longer working with NPG? It is fine to branch out and work with others, but what happens to them while you branch out or do you even care? There is a clear history of Prince controlling people using them up and then acting like they didn't even exist. It is a terrible shame that a musical genius could be so insecure!!!

Some fans would argue that he is quite hospitable since he will invite them back to his studio after his performance and entertain them for free into the wee hours of the night! Even serving snacks! Even if a person were perfect, there are going to be loads of folks lining up to pass judgement, downplay their achievements and just be generally negative about the most inconsequential details. Maybe working with young people demonstrates his ability to keep up with the times and continue to produce music that will sell...?
