is zygi really that cheap ??? come on !!! $25 million more on what will be a billion dollar stadium.(these things are never on budget). I've had lukewarm feelings about this deal even before finding out zygi won't actually be paying out of his own pocket, what with PSLs , naming rights and nfl money. now this cheap, cheap, cheap no retractable stuff. multi-use is what WE are paying for and all those summer events under another plastic dome, wow, great...

an open roof probably saves $25 plus million on air conditioning over the 30 year life of the thing. i bet zygi has it worked out WE pay that bill too...

I also expected to be let down, but was very impressed with the design presentation and the final product. With so much natural light coming from all angles, I'd even argue that a retractable roof is totally unnecessary. You can see the the architects took a lot of time to create a design that was unique and true to Minnesota - it wasn't just a revised template. It would be great if it could manage natural turf, but I'm assuming that while possible, it was not practical given that it has to serve many purposes. I'd give it an A-

I just commented that the new stadium design looks great.....until you mentioned that a retractable roof would be a, what, 3-5 percent additional cost? Look, I get that even 25 to 50 million is a lot of money, but come on--if taxpayers are kicking in multimillions and this thing is going to be actually built, let's do this RIGHT for the people of Minnesota. Sun and fresh air in September and October, sunlight and warmth from November on. I can't believe another 50 million on a billion dollar stadium is a big deal??

I think the stadium design failed for the same reason the new uniforms did. The architects tried too hard to integrate with the Minneapolis community and to personify the Minnesota culture that they lost track of what they were supposed to be designing. Yes, the stadium is edgy and yes it will be an improvement over the Metrodome. But, its a football stadium inside what looks like an art museum. Modern stadiums can look good (see Xcel Energy Center). But dramatic shapes overdo it. Sometimes reinventing the wheel isn't necessary.

I don't mind helping Zygi and The Vikings get back on their feet again. I think we need a strong welfare state in our country. That being said, I think the plans look a little extravagant. I envisioned something more in line with other public housing projects.

Love it! Wonderful and inspired architecture! Finally thinking outside of the box! Great addition to downtown and a vast and huge improvement over the dome! Very sharp, love it!

I don't like the location, I don't like the price tag, I don't like the "looks" but most of all I don't like the fact that they unveiled this at a "gala". After the awe factor wears out (a few years after it opens), people will still clamour for everything that the Met brought and this didn't...namely a passion for the team on the field that runs beyond amenities. Folks there is a reason Lambeau and Soilder Fields still conjure up an entirely different feel and it has everything to do with the sense that it is a field for the every-day man. It truely is unfortunate that Minneapolis politics drove this in its entirety.
