Lakeville South’s Lee Bares, Blake’s Grant Krieger and Buffalo’s Mitch Valli are on a quest to push the state pole vault record to 17 feet and above.

These three young men are some of the nicest and most talented guys you will meet. I wish them well in their pursuit!

Tyler Tappe in Pequot Lakes has also went over 15 feet this year, and finished tied for first at the Hamline meet. He is also a junior.

Great to see an article like this in the Star Trib. I watched Jon Anderson and Chip Malstrom clear 15' 3" 19 years ago at the MN state track meet - still the class A meet record unless someone finally breaks it. First MN vaulters to ever clear 15' at the time. Back then track was a 3-month sport. Everyone used Pacers, black cats, or espirit poles.
