Dear Amy: I started dating a woman in July of last year. After a month of seeing each other, she was still having trouble detaching from her former romantic partners. I told her to wait until she was ready to date me. After almost a month, she asked me to start a relationship. It was great until we found out that she was pregnant. She terminated the pregnancy, and we continued to date.

I'm all for "Civil Unions" as part of Equal Rights for All Americans; but I do have my religious belief of marriage as a union between a man & a women. Civil & Religious Rights should be respected by all.

Equality isnt the topic here, its how to handle differences in opinions. Honestly true friends and loved ones should and generally will respect the difference in opinions. We all should tolerate each others views whether we like them or not.

For the wedding issue, thats why you never personally invite someone to a wedding when it is contigent on the fact that they are in a relationship with someone. Any time I am in such a situation for any kind of gathering, instead of being specific in my invite (when regarding the significant other) I put plus one.

I find it shocking that people with decenting views on a topic like marriage can't find a way to be friends. I mean seriously, how often does a topic like that really come up...especially now that its past. I find it kind of shallow that people get so caught up on singular issues that they can't be friends with someone. Now if that person was actually gay, I could see it being a little more sensitive to them and maybe being an issue.
