Gophers hockey fans can relax: The schedule is OK

Gophers men’s hockey fans — at least the rational ones — can relax. All the angst over how Minnesota’s schedule could look next season, its first in the Big Ten, proved to be wasted energy when the actual document was released Wednesday.

So how many games will be televised live?

Does that mean that Yale isn't on the schedule? Whew!

The only thing I don't like is the Sunday-Monday series against Penn State. But at least they're not home games.

I have worries about how many Gopher games will be televised live and the quality of the announcers with the Big Ten Network. Minnesota hockey fans are very knowledgeable about the sport and expect the announcers to be so as well, unfortunately this hasn't been the case in the past with BTN announcers.

NOTHING yet on televised games? If the BIG10 has the only rights to air any BIG10 sport, just how many Gopher hockey games are going to be seen live? Or will Gopher fans be sitting at home Friday night watching Penn State Volleyball games instead? I just have a feeling the BIG10 TV network will botch half of these hockey games.

Schedule looks good. I've always thought Friday and Saturday games should start at 8pm. A lot of people work until 6pm on Fridays and those 7pm start times are rough with rush hour traffic and parking. My last wish is trying is keeping the North Dakota trolls off the Gophers Hockey message boards. I won't miss playing the chippy Canadians.

"Grumbling over Big Ten hockey is still fair game; grumbling over the schedule, though, can cease.">>>>> But some of us hockey guys actually enjoy grumbling. As in playing UND > playing PSU!

I'd hate to think that grumbling is becoming a lost art. I think that Big10 hockey is going to be Big Disappointment to a vast majority of Gopher fans. On the bright side, Goph's should finish 1-2 annually in conference.

I love how some still give the gophers flak for losing to Yale. Upset? On paper, sure, but last time I checked, they ended up the best college team in the country. I do like the 8pm starts. But still not a fan of big ten hockey...less of a league than the (old) WCHA. As someone pointed out, UND > playing PSU, or OSU........Oh, but wait until Iowa, Indiana, Northwestern, Nebraska, etc start hockey teams, wow, lookout, can barely contain my excitement (in my best Steven Wright impersonation).
