Why "High Speed" rail when these guys do the job? And, they pay taxes and show a profit. Public riders only pan 1/3 of the cost. Hmmm.

Meanwhile the $250,000,000 Union Depot built by the government with stimulus dollars sits nearly idle. My guess is that this new Megabus stop will be handling more intercity bus passengers than the aforementioned white elephant.

For those who want to sing the praises of megabus, look at them closely. Their terminal is a parking lot - where they provide NO services. Sounds like the St Paul stop will offer more of the same. How many of us would like to go out to an empty field to catch a flight to Chicago? How about a deserted stretch of beach to board that cruise? Never taken the megabus, but I've heard it's rather "cattlecar-esque" in charm.

What taxes supervon? They park on the street corner and load passengers. I'm pretty sure the Union Depot does NOT want the megabus stopping there and I don't blame them. I'm willing to bet the City of Chicago is giving most of these people one-way bus fare to the Twin Cities.

They use public infrastructure corridors but operate at a profit. Just like what would happen with high speed rail. Which is why French train operator SNCF completed a study at their own expense showing that they could operate midwest HSR at a profit.

Any more options to get out of boring crumbling bleak Saint Paul is a good thing in my opinion.

@ littleboots - I agree. In fact, I think Megabus should put a sign on the window during their stops in Saint Paul: "PICKUP ONLY"

Just think how many welfare double-dippers this outfit can transport between Chicago and Minnesota.
