Gophers upgrade schedule by adding games with TCU

Spurred in part by the Big Ten’s desire to strengthen nonconference schedules, the Gophers are adding Texas Christian, which moved to the Big 12 last season after going 47-5 over the previous four years.

OK, so can we lay off Kill and Teague for a while? Even though we lost to Tech there was a lot to like about that game.

$800k payment will follow Teague and Kill around until they are gone....unless they win the RoseBowl then all is forgiven.

It makes up for dropping North Carolina....They'll have to keep it on the schedule this time to make the B1G happy. Go Gophers

The North Carolina series - debacle - has just been put to bed. The crazy $800K loss to avoid playing a mid level ACC team has just been replaced with a $100K profit to play a mid level Big 12 team. All in all a good situation and a good job by Kill and Teague. The team is improving, and an extra year to absorb the Kill system with his own recruits should also help. This is a win/win if there ever was one.

Look I don't care what these two do, but the logic isn't there behind this. We recoup only a portion of the $800k paid to UNC and we have to play a tougher opponent? Wasn't the point of paying UNC to soften up the Gopher's non conference schedule in order to "build the program"? I guess I don't get it. Why don't we give back TCU their $500k, take back our $800k from UNC and add them back to the schedule, and it seems to me we're in a better spot.......

Please put to rest the NC game. It didn't cost you a penny!

How is this a financial windfall? We paid NC $800K to not play them, TCU pays us $500K to play them. We replace SDSU with TCU at home. The $400K that we are not paying SDSU is irrelevant - you can't add that to the $500K. All it is is $ we're not paying out when we switch opponents. We'll probably end up losing ticket sales and concession $ when there are fewer TCU fans here than there would have been SDSU fans.

Maybe the B1G did force it on them but it still is a very good move. Patterson is one of Kill's best friends so that probably softens the blow. It will also make next year's Home schedule look a lot better. Nice job!

dacommish007--The $400k saved from SDSU is real money. If we bought out the contract we would have paid them cancelling. If they made the trip we would have paid them for coming. With TCU coming in their place and not taking money we get to keep the full gate receipt.

Excellent - I hope this finally silences the NC buy-out critics. That was never going to be a tragedy.
