The state is doing a good job of disposing the waste from the bridge collapse, as they did of their culpability over the collapse itself.

Get rid of it. Why in the last 5 years does everything have to be turned into a permanent memorial?

My sympathies to those who suffered because of the collapse, but the historical importance of this bridge collapse is essentially zero and there's absolutely no reason the Historical Society - always strapped for cash, anyway - needs a beam from it. They regularly turn down papers from minor political figures in the state - and those, at least, might tell future generations something they don't know. But bridge scrap? Other than a monument to our love of monuments, I'm skeptical. Keep the school bus door and let's move on.

So if we kept the vehicle from every traffic death how big would that memorial be? Maybe it's not so important after all.
