The punter isn’t afraid to speak his mind, and yes, that is a good thing.

I agree that the NFL and Vikings are better off with Kluwe around. But fact remains he's middle of the road on stats, and the new guy will have about a million less in cap hit. Oh, scouts say he's got a huge leg.

I think a lot of teams thinks it's good he's passionate about issues important to him but let him be passionate elsewhere.

I like him, but face it. He is an expensive mediocre punter. It's similar to the kicker signed last year. Cheaper and better than the veteran. It's a business folks not a social circle.

Kluwe is such a rare intelligent NFL player. Even Harvard boy Matty Birk was scared to match wits with him. All the best, Mr. Kluwe. A dark cloud now hangs over Minnesota.

Call it addition by subtraction. I'm sorry, but when you are on the Minnesota Vikings roster, your job is to help the team win football games. Like it or not, Kluwe has used his position with the team to promote causes not related to football. These distractions are not helping him do his job, nor are they helping the team. Throw in the fact that he was not as effective a punter last year as he had been in previous years (see the Tampa game as the most obvious example), and this move by the team is understandable. If Kluwe wants to retire and go into politics, or go promote gay rights in the sports media with Peter King, let him do so. But while you are a member of the Vikings, stay focused on your job. Do you think Bob Kraft and Bill Belichick with put up with this nonsense? They know that's not how you field a Super Bowl caliber team every year.

As usual chipper dipper, I disagree. Oh the might voice of the one for the mass. bullsnort. just punt and do it well. He was average at best and in the middle of the NFL in almost every meaningful category. I dont care what he thinks about men and men or Ray Guy or anything else. Just punt and do it well. He was falling off the pace last yr. Time for change. Good on you Mr. GM!!!

We all have had emplyees that we put up with, to a point. When that employee hurts the organization mare than he assists it, he or she is gone. Goodbye, Mr. Kluwe.

football is a team game, but kluwe spouting his beliefs isn't in the best interest of our team. his career is about over anyway so what is the big deal.

gogonancyMay. 4, 13 8:33 PM

Thank you for publishing this story. Kluwe is a fresh voice among the NFL and he is right when he says that when he's not at work he's entitled to live his life as he sees fit. Such an intelligent voice that needs to be heard by everyone when he's not playing.

wrong wrong wrong chipper. Let him be mediocre for the Pack but we expect more.
