Bagladesh is free-market nirvana with almost no government regulations. Is this what we want in the United States? We had it at one point and people said "No Way". And now some people want to bring this back to America.
Any one of those people may have made the clothes you are wearing right now.
This tragedy is the result of the never ending pursuit of lower costs. There is a cost to operating in this way, unfortunately it is born by the workers. I'm sure the victims were "happy to have a job". That is cold comfort to their families. When you make a purchase of 12 pair of underwear for $1.79 do you think of the hidden costs behind that low price?
Where you shop matters, what you buy matters.
