Hey Editors, give a little background to your readers. Those of us who know what NASTY stuff "Willie Pete" (White Phosphorous) is think your readers should understand what-the-heck the uproar is about.
davehoug- It is less disturbing and more abstract when you hear that the Israelis will stop using using "White Phosphorous", the stuff they used on a UN sanctuary for refugees, if you don't mention that there is WP masking smoke - which is the use allowed - and there is white phosphorous that is packed around an explosive and shot at people and when the explosive goes off, white phosphorous powder and soft metal bits fill the air - and when it hits skin, it sticks and you can't rub it off and it burns using the water in your blood or eyes and burns, and the bits sizzles down a small hole to the bone until it burns itself out, and the powder ignites your airways and lungs - and the residue in the body from even a few pieces after burning causes slow fatal organ failure. That use has been banned... (The author is apparently trying to avoid the unsanitary version.)
