Paid for by what now? Taxes on smokes, booze, gas, clothes, food? Middle class - the dems are killing us!
How about some legislation regarding the huge amount of money being abused at these institutions.
Stop the spending. I'd rather let China be the world leader in the future just so I can save a couple of dollars today. Let me keep my money now!!!! I don't care about the future!!
Republican posters once again hate everything that has to do with helping others. Yes, keeping college tuition stable for two years is such an awful thing. And avejoecon, please document the "huge amount of money being abused at these institutions" please.
And avejoecon, please document the "huge amount of money being abused at these institutions" please.--------Look at the contract buyouts for coaches. Look at the number of high buck administators vs the number of instructors. That's a start!
In the past decade, Minnesota’s administrative payroll has gone up three times as fast as the teaching payroll, and twice as fast as student enrollment.
More Evidence of waste and abuse: At the University of Minnesota, the number of employees with “human resources” or “personnel” in their job titles has grown from 180 to 272 since the 2004-05 academic year. Since 2006, the university has spent $10 million on consultants for a vast new housing development that is decades from completion. It employs 139 people for marketing, promotions and communications. Some 81 administrators make $200,000 per year or more.
JP55901----Have you heard of the $4000's spent by the U of M for a seminar on the "Female Orgasm". It was presented free of charge for anyone that wanted to attend. Just one example of what i would call waste!
Just one more quote showing the waste and abuse: Like many public colleges, the University of Minnesota went on a spending spree over the past decade, paid for by a steady stream of state money and rising tuition. Officials didn’t keep close tabs on their payroll as it swelled beyond 19,000 employees, nearly one for every 3½ students. “The more questions I asked, the less happy I was,” Dr. Kaler said.
@avejoecon: Forget the coaches that have been fired angle. That has nothing to do with this. High buck administrators? University presidents tend to make good money. But it's not just here in Minnesota. It certainly isn't a crime for university presidents and faculty to be paid accordingly with their work and education. Is that all you can google and come up with??? Things that occur at the U of M? Nice try. If this $150 million had been in a bill during Pawlenty and the republicants time in the mid-2000s you wouldn't say a word.
