Glad the Democrats are doing something about this. The Republicans have been whining about it and using it as (yet another) occasion to blame Obama for everything, but have yet to take any action.
Maybe someone should ask the FAA leadership why they cannot manage an agency with a 4% cut to the budget(not much leadership there). Our company just cut 10% out of our budget and we are managing to get the work done that needs to be done. Why can't goverment do the same?
The FAA needs to live within its means instead of inflicting punishment on travelers.
"Our company just cut 10% out of our budget and we are managing to get the work done that needs to be done. Why can't goverment do the same?" ---- Contrary to popular belief most governments run on very, very tight budgets. That's why.
Contrary to popular belief most governments run on very, very tight budgets. That's why.--------The dept I formerly worked for got a 5% cut 2 years ago and got by with not ONE person gettting hours cut. It is a gov't agancy and was on a "very, very, tight budget".
These cuts are suppose to be across the board. The cuts are 2.3% of the budget. So, why are the FAA cuts equal to 10% of their budget. Things don't add up folks. Last week, the star Trib put out and article that state funding was cut 2 Billoin because of sequester. The Education funding for MN was cut by 16 Millloin. MN is ranked 48 in the amount of money recieved for education. So, doing the math, This would be a minimum of 1 Billion in cuts nationwide (Probably double that because of the low amount MN recieves). So, just in Education funding cuts and other State aid cuts, we are already at 3 Billion of the 45 Billion, in just TWO cuts from sequestration. Now, multiply that by the THOUSANDS of departments that the federal gov't has that would also have "across the board cuts". You will find that the numbers don't add up at all. It is obvious, Obama is insisting that Americans have as much pain as possible just because he didn't get his way!
Doing the math: Average Wage of an Air traffice controller is 117K a year. So, cutting them one day every two weeks would save 17K a year. Multply that by 47,000 Air Traffic controllers and you get about half a Billion a year, in just Traffic controller cuts due to sequestration. That is about 2% of the total sequestration amount. Just for ONE small area of just the FAA budget. Now add in "across the board" cuts for the rest of FAA. Then add in all the cuts from all the other THOUSANDS of Deptments in the Federal gov't. Then add in all the cuts to State Funding. Then add in all the cuts to Local gov't. You know, the police that are forced to be cut because of sequestration. Suddenly, the amount of sequestration adds up to HUNDREDS of Billions, not the 45 billion that it is suppose to be.
With a 13 percent drop in domestic commercial flights in the past 5 years, why is a small percentage drop in controllers causing many problems?
This is all political BS. Neither party is responsible for solving anything. This is more a ploy by the DFL to blame the GOP. Maybe if the current administration would stop spending on entitlements, cut some welfare and put their foot down, none of this would ever happen.
"The FAA needs to live within its means instead of inflicting punishment on travelers" It tried but the whiners cried
