The air traffic controller furloughs are grandstanding and departmental budget protection. Furlough the people who are doing the reports on lost bags and on time arrivals. Furlough the people involved in crash investigation, until there is one. Furloughs the administrative assistants. Expand the scope of supervisors and managers to include more direct reports.
15,000 air traffic controllers and another 32,000 employees make up the total FAA 47,000 employee's, why do we need 2 employee's for every air traffic controller. hs to be some waste in there someplace.
Dear President Obama, Nice try...it isn't working.
No waste at the FAA you say?

"The 2012 Conference is approved as training for FAA employees"
Can someone explain to me how a bigger budget than last years caused half the FAA to be shut down? Looks like manufactured calamity to me.
You wanted austerity? Here it is. No one warned you that the FAA would put staff on furlough? DOT has been warning you for months. Ray LaHood testified to Congress that sequestration would bring flight delays. You wanted shrinking government--now you better learn to live with it.
Thanks John Kline & you too Eric Paulsen for your refusal to compromise with the Administration, thus forcing the Sequester to go into effect, causing delays in air traffic, layoffs in hundreds of small businesses here and elsewhere & untold thousands to the unemployment rolls.
The FAA is just following orders. They had to make this cut as painful as possible, by orders of the Obama Administration.
Anyone in the media do the math? Someone should. Add up all the "sequester related" cuts. It would by much more than the 45 Billion in Non-defense spending. But NOT ONE of the media will do this because they are protecting this failed president!
According to an earlier article there has been a 13 percent decline in commercial flight in the past 5 years. With that many fewer flights, how does a 10 percent cut in the number of controllers cause the sky to fall?
oldster; Where's the austerity? Where's the shrinking government? Even though there has been a 13 percent decline in domestic commercial flights in the past 5 years, the FAA's operating budget has grown by 10.4 percent.
