The cormorants #1 target on Leech Lake was/is walleyes about 15" and smaller. They basically wiped the smaller walleyes out in about 4 years. They are an incredibly destructive force and have destroyed fishing in many areas, including the Great Lakes when left to do so. They need to be culled massively on all Mn. lakes. Lakes like Vermillion, Mille Lacs and Leech could possibly handle about 25 pair. Other larger lakes, maybe 10 pair, as they are totally destructive in the food chain. Predators, who absolutely devastate fish populations with no upside whatsoever. You can't even make cat food out of them so why let them take fish from our public waters that are suppoesed to be managed for the benefit of people first and foremost. The cormorants do not pay taxes, buy fishing licences or vote. Past time for everyone to put the "feel goods" behind them and manage this destructive species accordingly. Cormorants are the "locusts" of the lakes of which we have 10,000 of them to manage for the betterment of the citezens who live here.

There's no question humans are more destructive than cormorants.

A Canadian study showed less than 1% of the fish taken by cormorants were walleye or northern.

You would think they'd make good fertilizer.
