The contract should go to the best bid at the lowest price. Tie breaker is the affirmative action bit. TP spend $6M more for an inferior bridge is just plain goofy. ESPECIALLY when the winning bid is $6M higher, just to "give" $3M more to "disadvantaged" businesses. Is it any wonder politicians can’t balance a budget???

Liberalism is out of control. Tax and spend $6 million extra to satisfy a non specified moving target. Ridiculous! Stop voting these people in.

markap, you'll have to explain your liberalism comment because one of the principle proponents of this stupid bridge was Michele Bachmann.

Still time to stop this $700,000,000 boooondoggle. Money would be better spent in a million other places including I94 from Mpls to St Cloud.

When are non union businesses going to be considered DBE? When was the last time someone was kicked off a jobsite for being a minority or a woman?

The typical republican that will blame anything he/she can on the Democrats even though everyone in Minnesota except him/her know the Bachmann is also Republican and so out of touch with reality.

Correct me if I"m wrong but I think there's some federal legislation involved in here requiring a certain portion of the work to be done by minorities. What I cannot understand is that this is probably the 3rd time CS McCrossan has lost out on a big bid. Do they not understand the rules or do they walk too close to the line?

And by the way, how much is the bridge anyway? The StarTribune says $50-$50 million. KSTP says $500 - $500 million. Somebody has misplaced a decimal point, and, thereby a half billion dollars.
