"Senior Army officials warned Tuesday they may have to cut more than 100,000 additional soldiers over the next decade unless automatic spending reductions forcing the military services to slash their budgets are stopped" -- maybe if republicans would allow the retirement and discontinuation of weapons systems the DOD doesn't want and doesn't use, those unused funds could be shifted towards stabilizing the number of troops?

The US spends 40% of the entire world's military spending--4 times what the second biggest spender, China, spends; and over double as a percent of GDP. It's a big reason we're bankrupt, and was a stated aim of OBL's agenda.

The Army whines, while at the same time they are unable to perform a successful audit...i.e. they cannot say where all the money goes! Use the GOP mantra, "starve the beast".....

This will not be good for those states that depend on the Army bases for employment. Less soldiers; less peripheral businesses. Most of the bases are in Southern Red states.
