People like to talk about Spielman's mistakes in Miami, but he has been rock solid since he got here. Look around the NFL, and thank your lucky stars we have a very good GM working for us. Top 5 in my book. Not every pick can be a superstar, but he's hit on more guys than most other GM's, and he picks guys that, for the most part, are football guys with a passion for the game. Not just someone looking to cash in on their god-given ability.

Spielman is tied to the Ponder reach at #12 from the 2011 draft. I'm ok with most of his other moves, but that pick shapes a lot of opinions on tricky Rickie.

The senior bowl played a factor. That's where they found players like smith.

I think bredpath has some validity to his comment. Yes, last year's draft was very good but even according to Spielman, we have to wait three years to truly assess just how good it was. This is the third year for Ponder starting and if he plays like he did at the end of last season and we win the division and advance in the playoffs, all is good and Rick can be mentioned in the same breath as many of the best GMs in the league. However, if Ponder busts and gets replaced by Cassel as the starter, what will the critics be saying about our GM? If we need three years to assess a draft then we also need three years to assess the one who is responsible for making the picks.

I've heard about 100 times, Spielman should be FIRED, Frazier should be FIRED--like starting over from scratch will fix everything. However, Frazier was named as potential Coach of the Year, and Spielman has yielded HUGE results from the draft(Save Ponder). Look at GM's around the league the last few years and Spielman will rank quite high. I expect huge things from Spielman this thursday again! GO VIKINGS.

If Ponder is a bust and Cassell is moved in to start, then it is just the same old same old for Minnesota quarterbacks. This year I see more hope for Ponder, with the upgrade in at least one receiver position, and hopefully, there will be a pretty good receiver drafted this year as well although it looks like defense is getting the most attention.... Like Bud used to say; just take the best athlete on the board.
