Souhan: Wolves can't afford to let Adelman leave

  • Article by: JIM SOUHAN , Star Tribune

Rick Adelman is the Wolves’ symbol of NBA relevance, a likely Hall of Fame coach who allows Minnesotans to imagine better days are ahead.

Wolves can't afford to let Adelman go, but that will be completely his decision. Hope he stays.

An interesting article, Jim and I totally agree with most of it. However, can you further explain your statement about Kevin Love displaying little interest in the team this year? Maybe being from outside of the "inner circle" the reporters of the Star Trib seem to be in these days, I could have missed some things here and there. Apart from that infamous Yahoo article at the first of the season, what else has Love done (or not done) to cause you to make such a comment. Quite frankly with his lost season this year, I think that some people need to cut him a bit of slack. Cutting down Kevin with a few simple words about this season will most likely come back to bite you next (and in 2015 when he exercises his option, leaving the Wolves in the basement once again). With the unsupportive attitude of some so-called "fans" and media types, will it be any wonder he will want to leave?

Perfectly stated story by my favorite sports columnist in the world! :)

Adelman's worth to this franchise cannot be overstated. He makes us relevant in so many ways around the league and with the players in the league. And for those that didn't get it earlier this year, when it was stated and repeated many times, Adelman is making the final personnel decisions for this team, not David Kahn. That in itself is worth keeping RA as head coach, and being generous with his time with family (games off) during the season next year.

Just like we got rid of Tubby, we need to move on from Adelman. How bout' someone that will develop and play young guys like DW? Why aren't we getting anything out of these Draft picks? Why was Love playing with his hand issues then he further aggravated it and was done for the season? Get Flip in the GM role and bring on a young guy with passion and a connection to today's players.

R. Adelman play-off record. 157 games, 79 wins, 78 loses. Regular season 1000 + wins, over 700 loses. I watched just about every game and his experience and coaching skill did not give me very much optimism!!! Longevity is sometimes misleading.

Has This Really Ever Been An NBA Franchise??? Even with Garnett, they never had anyone to go with him.

I would love to keep Adelman...but he deserves better than to coach this inept franchise.

Hope he stays, and everyone would understand if he didn't. This is an interesting question: who is the leader of this team? Is it K-Love or Rubio? When he's healthy, K-Love is the more "productive" player in rebounds and scoring, but who is the locker room leader and the team's captain?

the team is making progress. its just slow progress. The SG position just killed the team this year. I appreciate Luke's efforts but he was a minimal threat on offense and he just could not guard any legit 2 guards. That changed the the whole season for the wolves.... I think it would be a huge mistake to do wholesale changes again this year. They need to keep the core in tact. subtract jj or luke. add 2 legit shooting guards and see where the core of rubio, pek and love get you... i am also hopeful ak opts out so williams and cunningham continue to play 25 minutes a game. ak is getting older and his body did not hold up well this year.
