Even business groups like the chamber of commerce support raising the sales tax for transit expansion. Big bad government builds the infrastructure that allows the free market to thrive. In the Metro we need to maintain our roads AND build better transit to host a competitive local economy. It costs money, but this type of investment pays dividends.

Enough already!!! I thought only the 2% were going to pay more. Democrats are proposing increased sales taxes, hidden transportation taxes, increased insurance taxes, tobacco taxes, alcohol taxes. Why do we need an 8% increase in government spending?? Between the money that they got with the 2008 transportation bill and all the federal stimulus money, transportation has seen more increases than any other part of the budget. Enough already.

People of Minnesota: Please pick up your government issue black jumpsuits. You are working only to fund the government.

Apparently the investments I would like to make for me and my family should take a backseat to the investments of smart growth urban planners so they can build bike paths and trains nobody rides.

a sales tax increase for metro transit

Why do transit supporters always expect someone who does not use nor even NEED their service to make the payments? Raise the fees at the toll box.

Why sould someone from outside of the metro drive there be expected to pay for those who don't drive? E-commerce is looking better and better.

I think it is time to repeal the automatic collection of state and federal income taxes from payroll. The people should be required to write a check every single month to the state and federal Treasury department. Collecting from payroll is painless. If this were to happen, and people felt the pain of writing out a large check each and every month, month after month, year after year, you would see a very different government. A government for the people, by the people. Government would be smaller, leaner, and more efficient. Not wasteful, bloated and seeking to tax everything that moves, breathes or exists. People would demand that every dollar be accounted for.
