Joe is also the ultimate character. This should be a foregone conclusion. No doubt he belongs. Great guy.

I love it when Pat covers town team ball. He's absolutely right. The Hall of Fame is irrelevant if it doesn't have a place for players like Joe. The state board has a few members who take themselves WAY to seriously. I played against Joe's great Arlington A's teams. They were all good guys and he fit right in.

The best thing about Minnesota is its small town mens baseball teams and the best thing about those teams are the guys that love baseball and play it for decades.

Patrick and his radio friend from across the river waged an unsuccessful campaign to get one of their Sports Talk listeners inducted a few years ago. Somebody help me out with the name, Louie ??? All I can remember is that he was an older guy.

The year Joe played with me at Prior Lake we won the State Championship in Arlington. That was 1976 and Joe lived the entire summer in the back of his beat up old station wagon. If that doesn't qualify him for the HOF nothing does. Joe is without a doubt one of the great characters of Minnesota town team baseball.

Actually, I think it it St. Cloud Sports -- not the Minnesota Baseball Assn. Board -- that runs the hall of fame. My mistake, but it is also THEIR mistake if they don't put Joe in. If there isn't a spot for Joe at the Minnesota amateur baseball hall of fame you might as well just close it down. Or at least call it something else.

Patrick - that's what I meant. The column was correct, and my first post was wrong. I loved the column.

A Gaylord guy here who loved and loathed watching Joe tear up our old Gaylord Islander nines at Titloe (Walsh) Field. If he can't get in...who does? I'd put Duke O'Brien in too and why not throw in Gaylord Islander Doug Walsh. Baseball men to the core!
