Despite claims to the contrary in the MSM, Americans, want no further infringement on our constitutional rights and demand that current laws be enforced. Nothing being proposed would have prevented the Sandy Hook or Aurora killings. There are laws on the books already that require background checks for sales by licensed dealers. Anything beyond that is unenforceable. Adding more restrictions on top of the thousands already on the books won't make anyone safer. Lack of enforcement is the problem. There is probably no bigger "hot button" issue than gun control and defenders of the Second Amendment are the "mother-of-all" single-issue voters and have long memories. Elected officials at all levels should consider that fact carefully before stepping on the third rail.

OK, the problem here with the officals in CT is that they are viewing everything through shocked views and anguish. The rest of the nation have clearer thinking and long views. If you want to be super safe, then move to CT. That is what the officals are saying. But of course death will still go on in every stae of this country. With a population base of 350 million people in this county then know that there are a lot of bad people out there. That is all I am saying.

Condolences to the Sandy hook families notwithstanding, emotion NEVER makes for good legislation. And for this Administration to so cynically use their grief to further the Democrat's long-standing anti-gun agenda, is reprehensible on the part of Obama and Biden. Thankfully, clearer heads prevailed here.

sharkyshark === "Despite claims to the contrary in the MSM, Americans, want no further infringement on our constitutional rights and demand that current laws be enforced." Despite your claims to the contrary, all polls show that most Americans want stronger background checks. Where in the Constitution does it say that gun purchase cannot be regulated?? And if the GOP wants more enforcement why do they continue to stonewall funding of current laws and stop the nomination of the ATF chief? The NRA and its supporters lie out of both sides of their mouths.

jarlmn ==== "And for this Administration to so cynically use their grief to further the Democrat's long-standing anti-gun agenda, is reprehensible on the part of Obama and Biden." So the Administration MADE these people speak out? How shameful for these parents to want other peoples' children to be safer than theirs were. How dare they express their heartfelt desire to stop the murders of kindergarteners? The Newtown parents should be ASHAMED of themselves! As for "the Democrat's long-standing anti-gun agenda" Please tell me what gun control laws have been proposed by the Administration prior to Sandy Hook. The answer: NONE!
