"Of the 131 defendants accepted into the county’s Veterans Court from 2010 to 2012, 83 percent committed fewer offenses after six months in the program as compared with the six months before entering, the district’s Research Division found." Nice, but it sounds like there was no comparison to a group that wasn't going through Veterans court, the measurement was done while they were being supervised (I hope probation is still effective) and overall crime was dropping during that period overall anyhow. It's not enough convincing evidence to have Hennepin County property tax dollars take on the program. But if the State Court wants to continue to fund it, more power to them.

Worked in court system for 35 years. This is dead on effective and appropriate. Like Drug Court, it utilizes the specific issues facing offendors to accomplish success. Will become statedwide concept. State pays for court operation; counties pay for probation and other support services. This will HELP vet offendors and save $$$$$.

This is the best approach I have seen in a long time. This program should be expanded to other Counties. My son is a Veteran and he has had issues unfortunately. This Court understand what Veterans have been through that the non-veteran will never understand.
