Happy for the workers who bent, but I'll never buy from them again just the same.

Thanks to the union, those employees essentially lost $66,000 in lost wages that they will never recover.

dentester - Thanks to the union,------------ Unions strike. Corporations "lock out". They were locked out.

The union never went on strike. they never declared a strike. They were willing to work while negotiating a new contract. The company locked them out.

It will be interesting to see how the union tries to 'sell' this as a victory. They turned down a contract 4 times before realizing they had a good deal and approved it.

C&H pure cane sugar...that's the one! it's amusing that the union gets blamed for the company locking out the workers thus refusing to negotiate. if it wasnt for the union rest assured the wages these workers make and have made would be considerably less. unions built the middle class and the decimation of unions and the fall of the middle class is not coincidental...

I wish I could tell my employer how much to pay me... if I demanded a raise my boss would just tell me "if you don't like it, leave."

Offered a 13 percent raise, though they had to give a fair share for insurance. This many months later, they lost....hard. This isn't looking for Cesar Chavez-type union rights, or even UAW-type rights. This was billigerant union bullying to pad leadership coffers. That union needs to be broke up by their own workers, meaning new leadership.

Huge kudos to the company for holding the line on their contract offer! The union did its members a huge disservice by forcing them out of work for 20 months. The company proved that it could continue business without union workers for that 20 months. For work that requires very little skills and training, this case proves that union workers can be easily replaced by non-union workers.

I applaud Crystal Sugar for not caving into the bully union, and standing their ground since they issued their final offer back in 2011. They set a good example for other companies who have to deal with unions. Crystal Sugar it is in our home!
