Pay-before-you-pump ordinance faces repeal vote in Coon Rapids

The Coon Rapids City Council will vote Tuesday on whether to repeal an ordinance that requires customers to prepay when pumping gas.

Why not repeal the ordance and let the police ignore drive off crimes? Let the owners pursue the drive offs themselves.

I don't get why they needed an ordinance. The police department could just announce that gas station drive-off reports no longer get a squad car to respond. (Stations could still file a report, but they would have to do it in person or online--much like how Minneapolis deals with car break-ins and bike thefts.) That way, it remains a business decision whether to require pre-payment or not.

The government doesn't have any business micro-managing this sort of thing. If that's the case they should have a social worker going to each home to make sure we all eat breakfast before we leave in the morning, becahse that makes sense too, everyone should start the day with a good breakfast. For you that don't get it, my point is watch out what you ask for.

This ordinance should indeed be repealed. The decision to require pre-pay should be left to the business owners. Oh and we are not talking about a systemic problem across the city...... The overwhelming majority of drive off's occured at 4 stations....
